What is the most efficient way of cutting steel studs?

Have a job coming up that will require cutting ~300 2x8x30 cfs studs at various lengths. Previously we used a Milwaukee Chop saw it just seem slow and we went through blades fairly quick it seemed. How to move up the ladder from laborer?

I’ve been working as a laborer for a year and a half now along side a residential GC. I’ve seen the whole process of building custom homes to remodeling houses. I’ve learnt a bit of every trade. From demolition work to framing homes and putting up siding. I’ve learnt to used tools and read blueprints. I’m usually able to work on my own now since I taught myself a lot of things by the help of YouTube’s and books. I’m also bilingual so I help the GC communicate with subs. The thing is I don’t see myself advancing anytime soon. The GC is pushing me towards going to college so I can make good money and not work as a laborer. Would this be a good investment on my part? I have been thinking of going for construction management or something along those lines. How did you guys get into the higher paying job positions? Should I consider going to another job? I’m only making like 400 a week after taxes. Not enough to sustain myself. submitted by /u/someondowninatl [link] [comments]

Construction Resume Question

Hello all, I am currently pursuing a career in Building Construction Management and have a huge career fair coming up. I am hoping to land an internship but I have no formal experience in the construction industry. I have pulled a few odd jobs doing construction related things but it was all under the table. All of my work history has been in the service industry, mainly cooking. How should I construct (no pun intended) a resume? I have experience using AutoCad (4 years in high school and taking a class now using AutoCad) and hand drafting. I can work Excel, Word, and PowerPoint with ease and I have experience using a multitude of power tools. Should I lead with relative skills? Very confused right now. submitted by /u/KKovaction [link] [comments] from Construction https://ift.tt/2zEP18r via Handy Rep Ai

Deere updates 944K Hybrid loader with new engine, more

A new Tier 4 Final engine headlines a list of upgrades Deere has made to its 944K hybrid wheel loader. The machine’s new Deere PSS 13.5-liter engine provides 536 horsepower, the same power as the Tier 4 Interval engine it replaces. The loader is powered by the engine along with AC generators and motors. In this hybrid drive system, the engine turns twin generators that convert mechanical energy into electrical energy. Motors on each wheel then convert that electrical energy back to mechanical energy to move the wheels. Because of the new engine, Deere says the already efficient loader has lowered fuel consumption by between 9 and 14 percent compared to its Tier 4 Interim-powered predecessor.   Deere has used this engine refresh as an opportunity to add a few more upgrades to the 944K: Improved coast control performance : A standard feature that allows the operator to adjust the aggressiveness of the machine during deceleration with three different settings, Deere says the impro

Request for Advice: Picking degree/school for prospective (firestop) Project Manager.

Hey guys, I've just recently joined this subreddit, and hope you can advise me with an important decision. My goal is to become a project manager for a firestopping company (or a self-performing general contractor with a need for quality firestopping). At my last interview I was asked if I'd be earning a bachelors in Construction Management. I said I was on track for a business degree, but it got me thinking. --What are the best degree options for a prospective PM? I've learned there are Construction-engineering & management as well as Construction management degrees. --Is a Bachelors in business management still a viable option for me? --Which school did you graduate from or would recommend? I'm going to have to earn the degree online and I'm wary of investing 2-4 yrs into a degree only to find out the school isn't respected or accredited. **Few things about me, for anyone interested** -Currently live in Virginia -2 yrs

Looking for advice from professionals about the best course of action for a botched fence job

First, yes this is homeowner-related and yes I read the sidebar, but please do not direct me to /r/homeowners or /r/homeimprovement .. I'm specifically seeking advice from professionals who have experience dealing with this sort of thing. You guys know best who in the business handles this stuff. I'm not going to get the answers I'm looking for in a subreddit of casual homeowners. I hired a company to do a major fence job. 8ft cedar, 168 linear feet board on board, steel posts, etc.. a $9000 job. The contract stated 11ft posts buried 30-36" deep. After one year, it's leaning in multiple places and the entire thing wobbles significantly with the push of a finger. There's even a 6' corner section with no posts at all, only held up by nails, which was a concern from the very beginning. I have photos of the entire build process showing they only buried the posts, in some cases, less than 2 feet deep and cut off the tops of them with a sawzall. I didn't

Komatsu Mining expands Milwaukee presence with South Harbor Campus

Komatsu Mining released this artist’s rendering of the new South Harbor Campus in Milwaukee. Komatsu Mining says it will continue its nearly 135-year heritage in the Milwaukee area by building a $285 million, 2.5-million-square-foot South Harbor Campus, located in the city’s Harbor District. The facility is expected to employ nearly 1,000 people within 12 years. “The new campus provides us opportunity for advancement in state-of-the-art facilities on a global scale,” says Jeff Dawes, president and CEO, Komatsu Mining. Komatsu says the move reinforces its commitment to Milwaukee as “a large machining, heavy fabrication and engineering center of excellence for P&H mining shovels and drills.” Construction of the new campus means closing facilities in West Milwaukee, part of operations it acquired in its 2016 purchase of Joy Global .  Joy Global, founded in 1884 with manufacturing facilities across the world, manufactured the P&H, Joy and Montabert brands of equipment . 2nd round on site interview with a general contractor. Any advice for a college student?

Hello r/Construction , I had my on campus interview with a regional general contractor and I just got invited back for a 2nd round. This consists of 3, 30 minute interviews at their headquarters, lunch with a superintendent (along with a site tour), then a meeting with an executive. I am applying for a project/field engineer position. This company truly is my dream company, and after having been denied 3 years in a row for an internship, I have an opportunity to come on board as a full time hire. Do you have any advice in preparing for the on site tour, the meeting with a superintendent, and really anything else that you might want to throw in. I really appreciate any advice from you all, who have so much more experience than me! Tier 4 resale challenge not here…yet

Rewind to 2012, when we were getting familiar with Tier 4 emissions regulations. Many were then sounding the alarm that lower-regulated countries – a good market for used U.S. machines – wouldn’t be able to use the machines that normally came their way. The reason was simple: these countries use higher sulfur fuel, fuel that quickly renders Tier 4 machines inoperable since this equipment requires ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel to run properly. Not a problem in the United States and Canada, where ULSD is the only kind of diesel you can buy. Much of the rest of the world, however, has much higher fuel sulfur levels than ULSD’s 15 parts per million or below. Along the way many manufacturers have devised ways to “de-tier” these machines for sale in lower regulated countries. These de-tiering solutions add cost to the U.S. used machines, however. This cost puts the machines coming out of U.S. contractors’ fleets at a price disadvantage, particularly when compared with foreign-made used ma
