I’ve been working as a laborer for a year and a half now along side a residential GC. I’ve seen the whole process of building custom homes to remodeling houses. I’ve learnt a bit of every trade. From demolition work to framing homes and putting up siding. I’ve learnt to used tools and read blueprints. I’m usually able to work on my own now since I taught myself a lot of things by the help of YouTube’s and books. I’m also bilingual so I help the GC communicate with subs. The thing is I don’t see myself advancing anytime soon.
The GC is pushing me towards going to college so I can make good money and not work as a laborer. Would this be a good investment on my part? I have been thinking of going for construction management or something along those lines.
How did you guys get into the higher paying job positions? Should I consider going to another job? I’m only making like 400 a week after taxes. Not enough to sustain myself.
