Neighbors are doing a room addition plus new garage. Stucco has been left on our property in the backyard daily. Not that bad of a thing because I get they don't have access to our backyard and its not to much of a deal to clean up myself. I finally got mad about it and asked a few of them to go clean it up at the end of the day. They told me they'll get it tomorrow, ask them again after pointing out a few soda cans that where laying on the lawn from them and they said again tomorrow. On top of that they left wash out in the curb and gutters halfway through the block and that stuff is caked on there! Even more!, they had a dump truck there for dirt and left dirt all the way down both ends Of the block. Need some opinions, should I just bitch out the contractor ? Or should I call city and state boards on them? Because it feels like blatant carelessness like they have gotten away with that many times before. Hello all, I am currently starting a GC/CM firm with two friends of mine. We are all a couple years shy of 30. I grew up in a construction family with my dad owning a successful GC. His company is SBA certified (<$36mm annual volume). I have worked in construction pretty much all of my life (from general laborer for commercial to working heavy highway in the union for two years) and ended up getting my degree from an ACCE accredited university. I interned for 2 years at a large subcontractor (~$100mm annual volume), post grad I have worked at one large CM firm (>$11b annual volume) and one medium size firm (~$300mm annual volume). I was always more interested in the business aspect of industry and have studied it hard. I have worked relentlessly in trying to gain knowledge of what works at the large firms, what works in the medium firms and what works at a small firm. BKT tires on an articulated hauler. BKT Tires expects to break ground on a $100-million plus tire production facility next year, according to a report in Tire Review . I work for a grading contractor and have been given a new role as estimator. It's been about 1 year. I climbed my way up from being an engineer doing dirt takeoffs for residential projects using Trimble and Carlson Software, creating CF maps, and doing geotech report analysis, etc. The sector I am estimating in now is smaller scale civil projects that have a mixed bag of earthwork, pipe, and concrete work. My VPS told me this would be a good starting point into estimating. Reflecting on the past year, I find that my problem is with this new role my lack of experience in the field is a major handicap as I have a hard time knowing what kind of equipment and crews are needed for a project as well as reasonable productions. I don't want to make a mistake in my bids and I truly want to be a good estimator. But, should I first venture into the field or am I able to overcome these challenges? On the project I am on right now there is a small town framing contractor who said that he doesn't have the overhead pay his framers if we paid him on our normal schedule of once per month. He is asking to submit a pay app and receive payment every two weeks even though all of the other subs submit and receive payments once a month. I'm about to close on a house in Philadelphia, and there is some termite damage to the joists in the basement ceiling. I have had 1 contractor tell me that to do it correctly, he'll need to rip apart the first floor to get to those joists. Another carpenter has said that it's not necessary.
