Former IT guy joining a family run small construction business and tasked with modernizing operations. How do I learn my ropes?
I have worked in retail industry, so no real exposure to the civil/construction business. The current operations are almost entirely paper based and trust based. Accounting is done on tally.
What is the most efficient way of learning about the industry.
I also need some tips on the best solutions and practices that can be adopted to increase productivity and efficiency.
Meanwhile, I am thinking about creating some excel based templates for resource/material tracking and reporting. Subsequently I am considering introducing a basic ERP system which will require a lot of staff training. A few years down the line I am also thinking of introducing BIM.
