Hi y'all!
I'm looking at colleges/college majors and construction management has recently piqued my interest as a potential career, and I was wondering what this subs take on it is.
I also have a few questions, if anyone could be so kind as to answer them:
- Do construction managers need trade/construction experience (i.e actually swinging the hammers). Having this is not a deal breaker seeing as I will probably end up doing this the summer after freshman year at least and possibly during a gap year, should I take one.
- Is there any specific university in the US you recommend? I've been considering Purdue because it's cheap and requires 800 hours of internship experience before graduation, in addition to making it super easy to double major in project management should I wish to bail on construction for whatever reason.
- Are there any hidden downsides for the job? I know it's often long hours and stressful, but the reasons people described seemed pretty similar to the reason any job would have long hours and be stressful. Aside from this, what else sucks?
