Hey guys, just doing kind of a quick gauge of interest on an idea I had. You may remember me as the estimator who complained about the industry being far behind the times and wanted to work from home. Well I’ve actually ran into another issue at work. We have this older estimator (60’s) who refuses to put all of his bids on the bid calendar and never looks at it, which ends up with him and I sometimes working on the exact same bid unless we talk about everything that we are doing. Since I’d rather be left alone to do my work I thought of an idea. I’m currently learning to write code in my spare time and figured that I might as well use it to solve an issue at work. So here’s my question: say I made a google chrome extension for managing and tracking bids, would anyone here actually be interested in using it? I’m sure there are people out there using good software already but the few companies I’ve been with either do a terrible job at managing it themselves or they use an excel spreadsheet on a shared drive. My idea would just allow you to login to your chrome extension first thing in the morning and it would make entering bids a little easier than a spreadsheet. To me it seems like a good idea and a little more progressive but I’m also biased because it’s my idea. Tell me what you guys think!
