Talbert’s 60CC/55SA-LD lowboy trailer can be configured in a variety of ways to help operators meet differing state regulations.
The trailer can be operated as a spread-axle configuration with a 55-ton capacity or a closed-coupled configuration with a 60-ton capacity.
To achieve the 60-ton configuration the trailer is paired with an optional East Coast-style E1Nitro spreader for a 3+1 axle configuration. The E1Nitro does this by providing proportionate weight distribution in each axle grouping. This allows Talbert to increase the trailer’s hauling capacity beyond using simple mechanical or rigid axle extensions, the company says.
“As loads get heavier and heavier and our customers expand their operating territories to cover more states, there’s greater demand for trailers that meet requirements in a variety of locations,” says Troy Geisler, Talbert vice president of sales and marketing. “We saw more customers having the need for 3+1 in applications where the four wasn’t allowed. We’ve eliminated that hassle and the extra expense of another trailer while giving our customers additional versatility.”
The Nitro system combines hydraulic fluid and nitrogen to equalize axle pressures. This also reduces stress on the trailer and provides a smoother ride, the company says.
Along with versatility, the trailer has a deck height of 18 inches, which the company says is 2 inches lower than competitors’ trailers. This helps when hauling tall equipment. Ground clearance is 6 inches.
The trailer features a hydraulic detachable gooseneck with non-ground bearing design. It has a 108-inch swing radius. The deck is 26 feet long and 8 feet 6 inches wide. It is made of heavy-duty T-1 steel, and it is painted with Valspar R-Cure 800 to prevent corrosion, as well as protect against chips and scratches.
