Hi everyone,
Yesterday I was removing some vinyl flooring from my 1920's home in Buffalo in the side stairway entry. After peeling two step off, there was still some paper backing that remained. I was wetting the backing to remove for most of the time. I got excited when I saw original hardwood floors underneath and sanded it for 30-seconds to just see what a small patch looked like (not thinking of course). The steps had the paper material and hardened glue. I realized that it could be asbestos and stopped immediately. I cleaned up the entire area and went around spraying all the walls and floors in the hallway with a wet all-purpose cleaner. I was vacuuming with my shop vac as well for the materials.
My question is how bad was my exposure (assuming it was asbestos vinyl sheet flooring) bcs I did sand it (which is one of the worst things you can do)?
Also, I had a door to the upper apartment open during this time (thinking it was shut). I wiped down as many surfaces as I could that were near the open door inside the apartment too.
Wondering how bad my exposure was considering I inhaled friable asbestos? Also, my dog may have walked into the area afterwards so I immediately gave her a bath to prevent further spread of particles.
