Bryce Phillips, a Windsor native, has been named the new CEO of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA), which is set to begin construction on the Gordie Howe International Bridge in the fall of 2018, the Windsor Star reports.
Phillips graduated from the University of Windsor as a mechanical engineer and has had a 35-year career in the private sector, where he oversaw major infrastructure projects in both North America and Europe. He is expected to start his new job in mid-July by replacing interim CEO Andre Juneau, who took the reins after the departure of CEO Michael Cautillo in 2017.
“The Government of Canada is committed to the successful completion of the Gordie Howe International Bridge,” said Amarjeet Sohi, Canada’s Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, according to the news agency. “I am very pleased to announce Mr. Bryce Phillips as the new CEO of WDBA. He will be an effective leader of the corporation, while ensuring the success of this critical, binational infrastructure project.”
“As a Windsor native, I understand the importance and need for a new efficient border transportation system in this region,” said Phillips in a statement, the news agency reports. “In my new role as CEO of WDBA, I greatly look forward to contributing to the largest and most ambitious trade infrastructure project along the Canada-United States border and to give back to the community that I am so proud to consider home.”
“On behalf of the board of directors, we are excited to work with Bryce as he leads WDBA through the next stage in the delivery of the Gordie Howe International Bridge project,” said Dwight Duncan, board chairman of the bridge authority, according to the news agency. “Bryce’s considerable experience in both infrastructure and complex engineering projects, along with his strong track record of success in leadership positions, made him the outstanding candidate for the role of CEO.”
