Looking for some Advice on Maintaining egress in an occupied building

We have a project where we are putting an addition onto the end of an existing building. The building is 2 story brick with exterior steel egress stairs at the end where we are putting our addition. The building will be occupied while we are excavating and installing the foundations.

Does anyone have any ideas as to the best ways to maintain egress to the second floor while still allowing construction to continue below. We are thinking maybe a scaffold walkway to a stair outside the footprint of the building but we are not quite sold on that idea.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
