I am a commercial flooring subcontractor in Florida. I really want to diversify to make myself more valuable. I called the state to see what licenses I can get and there are literally zero. Does anyone have any advice? Any licenses I can earn they may not realize I'd be interested in/qualified for?
I have the education required but have never worked directly for a GC so I do not meet the prerequisite to earn a GC license. I do not see myself changing paths and growing into a foreman role for a GC so again, I do not meet the GC license requirements. I really want to learn as much as I can about construction but there does not appear to be any further education available in my field.
They mentioned structural, electric, concrete, etc but those are completely foreign to me and are too specific to ever help me unless I change fields in the future. This is my company so I will be in this industry for the indefinite future.
If I cannot earn a license, are there any courses I should look towards to at least expand my knowledge base? Flooring is pretty specific so I am not sure what I can specifically bring to the table to stand out from my competition.
